Simenon schreef meer dan 400 romans. Hij stond bekend om zijn hoge schrijfsnelheid. Hitchcock belde hem eens op, maar de secretaresse zei dat hij later terug moest bellen omdat hij net aan een roman was begonnen en niet gestoord kon worden. Hitchcock antwoordde: "Dat is prima. Ik wacht wel."
