Deze oude spoorwegverbinding tussen Dendermonde en Puurs is al sinds de jaren 1970 niet meer in gebruik. De vereniging ‘Belgische Vrienden van de Stoomlocomotief’ huurt deze spoorlijn al jaren af. Zij herstellen oude stoomlocomotieven en wagons. In de zomermaanden in weekends en op feestdagen verzorgen zij toeristische ritten hun oude stoomlocomotieven over deze spoorlijn over een lengte van 14 km van Baasrode tot Puurs. Een 5-tal km van de mountainbikeroute (rode en groene lus) loopt parallel naast deze spoorweg
