De centrale boszone, gelegen tussen de Rietgracht en de Schelde, is een uitgestrekt geboortebos. Het aanplanten van het geboortebos gebeurt telkens in de Week van het Bos. Het aanplanten gebeurde telkens met de ouders die het voorbije jaar een kind kregen in Gent. In 2009 werden de eerste bomen van het geboortebos aangeplant. Het geboortebos drukt uit dat de Gentse kinderen een gezonde en goede toekomst moeten krijgen. Een geboortebos is dan ook een ideaal geboortegeschenk voor de nieuwe Gentenaartjes.
