Opwijk is een plaats en gemeente in de Belgische provincie Vlaams-Brabant. De gemeente ligt in het noordwesten van de provincie en vormt sinds 1977 een fusiegemeente met Mazenzele. Opwijk telt ruim 14.741 inwoners. De buurgemeenten zijn: Asse, Merchtem, Aalst, Buggenhout en Lebbeke.Opwijk maakte in de middeleeuwen deel uit van de heerlijkheid Dendermonde, in 1355 werd het een allodium van het Graafschap Vlaanderen. Pas vele eeuwen later zou het deel gaan uitmaken van Brabant, waardoor het nu in Vlaams-Brabant ligt.
