Kermt haalde de geschiedenisboeken omdat hier in 1831de Slag bij Kermt gevochten werd tijdens de Tiendaagse Veldtocht, een conflict tussen het piepjonge België en het op revanche beluste Nederlandse leger. De slag nam plaats nabij de abdij van Herkenrode.
