Waver is de hoofdstad van de provincie Waals-Brabant in België. In 1977 werden de gemeentes Limal en Bierges bij de stad gevoegd. De stad telt ruim 34.000 inwoners. De inwoners, Wavriens of Wavriennes, worden ook weleens de Maca's genoemd naar het beeldje dat voor het stadhuis staat.In de buurt van Waver werden overblijfselen gevonden uit het neolithicum of uit de metaaltijd. "De Tomme", een langgerekte heuvel in Ottenburg, is een wal die door mensen opgericht werd. In het Krakelbos is een gelijkaardige wal, de Michelsberg, te onderscheiden.
