De waterburcht staat groots, streng en weelderig in een oude Leiebocht en is omgeven door een prachtig park van 45 hectare. Ooidonk wordt wel eens omschreven als één van de mooiste kastelen van dit land en dikwijls als een juweel van Vlaams-Spaanse 16de eeuwse bouwkunst. Het buitenaanzicht van het kasteel met zijn vele torentjes, trapgevels en schoorstenen roept een beeld op van de Loirekastelen zoals in Chambord. Het interieur laat de bezoeker kennis maken met zeldzame meubelstukken, historische voorwerpen, tapijten en unieke verzamelingen. De opeenvolgende eigenaars, waaronder de huidige graaf Juan t'Kint de Roodenbeke, hebben steeds getracht het landelijke uitzicht rond het domein te bewaren.
