De Abdij Ter Doest werd in 1106 geticht door de Franse Benedictijnen van Sint-Riquers in Pothieu. Zo'n 70 jaar later nemen de Cisterciënzers de abdij over en trekken ze nog een refter, een kapittelzaal, enkele slaapzalen, een scriptorim, een bibliotheek en een kerk op. Vandaag laat de imposante abdijschuur, opgetrokken in 1275, zich nog bewonderen. In de aanpalende abdijhoeve uit de 17de eeuw, huist het restaurant Hof Ter Doest. Je kan er lekker eten maar ook logeren en genieten van een landelijke wellness.
