Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd een deel van de Hospicebossen ingenomen door een legerkazerne. In het kader van de Koude Oorlog werd hier een 'verborgen' brandstofvoorraad aangelegd in sterk beveiligde reservoirs. Na de val van de Berlijnse Muur verloor de kazerne echter zijn doel.
