Uit grondig onderzoek eind jaren negentig, bleek dat het op de grens van Zuid-Oost-Vlaanderen en het zuidwestelijke deel van Vlaams-Brabant uitzonderlijk stil is. De verschillende overheden besloten om dit unieke karakter te vrijwaren en riepen het 28 ha grote 'Dender-Markgebied' uit tot het eerste officiële stiltegebied in Vlaanderen. Door het stiltegebied lopen vier verschillende wandelrussen. De auto parkeert u uiteraard buiten het gebied, dan blijft het er voor iedereen rustig. Aanlooproutes brengen u van de parkeerplaatsen naar de wandelroutes.
