Een taalprobleem kostte hier op één dag acht mensen het leven en twaalf personen werden gewond. Hier gebeurde een treinramp op 27 maart 2001. Een seingever in Waver had gezien dat een trein het stoplicht had genegeerd en dat er een trein uit Leuven uit de omgekeerde richting kwam aandenderen. De seingever uit Waver belde de seingever uit Leuven om de stroom van de bovenleiding te halen en zo de treinen te laten stoppen. Beiden begrepen elkaars taal niet. En de treinen botsten frontaal op elkaar. Je ziet nu nog een opschrift op twee arduinen gedenkplaten. Het opschrift is in twee talen aangebracht.
