Het Kotje Piepersbos grenst aan het Hellegatbos en werd al in 1953 aangekocht door het toenmalige gemeentebestuur van Westouter. Het bos dankt zijn naam aan de dorpsfiguur Cyriel Vanuxem, beter bekend als Kotje Piepers. Voor je het bos in mocht, moest je hem immers eerst een 'pieper' of kus geven. Zoals vele andere inwoners uit de regio hadden Kotje Piepers en zijn vrouw Maria Lenoir het niet echt breed. Om een beetje geld in het laatje te brengen, smokkelde Maria boter over de Schreve. Ze maakte zakken in haar wijde rok waarin ze pakjes boter stak. In de zomer liep er echter soms één en ander mis als de boter begon te smelten: vandaar haar bijnaam Marietje Beuterbille.
