Das Kotje Piepersbos grenzt an das Hellegatbos und wurde bereits 1953 von der damaligen Gemeindeverwaltung von Westouter gekauft. Der Wald verdankt seinen Namen der Dorfsfigur Cyriel Vanuxem, besser bekannt als Kotje Piepers. Bevor man in den Wald durfte, musste man ihm nämlich zuerst einen 'Pieper' oder Kuss geben. Wie viele andere Einwohner der Region hatten Kotje Piepers und seine Frau Maria Lenoir es nicht wirklich wohlhabend. Um ein wenig Geld zu verdienen, schmuggelte Maria Butter über die Schreve. Sie machte Taschen in ihrem weiten Rock, in denen sie Päckchen Butter steckte. Im Sommer ging jedoch manchmal etwas schief, wenn die Butter zu schmelzen begann: Daher ihr Spitzname Marietje Beuterbille.
