Je krijgt tijdens het bezoek aan dit indrukkende kunstwerk een stukje geschiedenis mee van het Zeekanaal Brussel-Schelde, de Schelde en de Rupel, uitleg over het belang van de binnenvaart, over waterbeheersing in Vlaanderen en over de werking van de sluis.
Nabij de sluis leidt een gegidst bezoek je via het natuurontwikkelings-gebied het Noordelijk Eiland naar een maquette van het historische Fort Sint-Margriet, dat zich ooit op deze plaats bevond.
