Deze woningen hebben geen deur aan de huidige straatzijde. De voordeur bevindt zich in het steegje achteraan de huisjes. Zo konden de arbeiders vanuit hun huis direct naar de nabijgelegen steenbakkerij waar ze werkten. De huizenrij kreeg in de volksmond de naam Averechtse Root mee. De huisjes waren klein en destijds niet voorzien van water of elektriciteit. Water haalde men aan de dorpspomp of uit een stenen put. De wc's waren 'gemakken'. Deze huisjes hadden allemaal een plank met een gat erin en bevonden zich buiten, soms allemaal naast elkaar.
