De naam ‘Broekbeemd’ zegt het zelf al: in dit stukje natuur kan het wel
eens nat zijn. Dit natuurgebied ligt in de vallei van de Herk en bevat
inheemse bosjes, knotwilgen, meidoornhagen, maar ook een kalkmoeras.
Dat kalkmoeras (of alkalisch laagveen) is heel zeldzaam. Er zijn ook heel
wat bronnen in het gebied. Het water wordt opgevangen in poelen en
stroomt vervolgens naar de Herk. Het gebied wordt nu onderhouden door
het Limburgs Landschap.
