Het oude gebouwencomplex dat gelegen is tussen de Vaartdijk en de Leopoldstraat is de plaats waar de eerste belgische autofabriek was. Het was een onderneming van de heer Vincke. Hij maakte er dan ook "de Vincke", de eerste auto van België, in 1894. In 1895 ging hij de geschiedenis in met het eerste autoongeluk in België. Dat gebeurde aan de hoek van de Groenplaats in Antwerpen.
