Edingen was in het verleden vooral bekend vanwege de productie van wandtapijten. Ga zeker het wandtapijtenmuseum in het Huis Jonathas uit de16e eeuw bezoeken. De stad is tevens gesitueerd aan de oude Romeinse heirbaan Bavay-Asse. Tot voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog had het stadje Edingen nog een overwegend Nederlandstalige bevolking.
