Het grootste deel van het Begijnhofpark hoorde vroeger bij de tuinen van de Groeningeabdij en het rusthuis Sint-Vincentius. De laatste bewoners van de Groeningeabdij waren de Arme Klaren.
Het park is nu nog steeds volledig ommuurd, met drie verschillende toegangswegen. Van de originele structuur van het park resten nu alleen nog de oude scheidingsmuur met zijn drie gemetselde poorten, een klein kapelletje en enkele waardevolle bomen.
Het park dient ook als decor voor tal van openluchtactiviteiten en is de ideale stop voor een rustmoment, picknick of om de kinderen even los te laten lopen.
Te midden al dit moois opende Abby er de deuren, de nieuwste tentoonstellingssite voor beeldende kunst.
