De Grote Markt in Menen is opgesplitst in twee. Voorkant stadhuis de echte Grote Markt, de achterkant stadhuis wordt in de volksmond Groentenmarkt genoemd.
Aan de zuidkant van de Groentemarkt bevond zich de Ortskommandantur. De gebouwen van het Sint-Alloysiuscollege werden oorspronkelijk gebruikt voor de cavalerie, later als lazaret (ziekenboeg) voor de frontsoldaten.
