Op de Grote Markt van Antwerpen, staat het standbeeld van de hand van Jef Lambeaux. Het stelt de legende voor rond de Romeinse bevelhebber Silvius Brabo. Nadat Julius Caesar van Gallië naar Engeland trok liet hij Silvius Brabo met de opdracht achter over dit gedeelte van het Romeinse rijk te heersen. Er was echter slechts een plaats waar de Schelde kon doorwaad worden en daar werd tol gevraagd door de reus Antgioon.
Indien de reizigers onvoldoende geld bij hadden om de overtocht te betalen stelde reus Antigoon hen voor de keuze uit twee zaken. Ofwel hun hand afhakken, ofwel een strijd tot de dood met de reus.
Toen Brabo dit hoorde trok hij naar de plaats om de rues uit te dagen. Hij slaagde er in zijn hand af te hakken en het over de Schelde te gooien met de woorden: "tot waar dit hand valt zal Brabant zich uitstrekken".
Deze legende werd in leven geroepen rond de 16de eeuw.
