Situering Start in Ruien

Om en rond de historische stad Oudenaarde eist de Schelde al eeuwen een hoofdrol op. Vandaag is de stad gekend als aankomst van de Ronde van Vlaanderen, maar in de 10de eeuw was dit gebied belangrijk en een Markgraafschap van de Duitse Keizer.

De stad is rijk aan monumenten en de groene wandtapijten (‘verdures’) die hier werden gemaakt zijn wereldberoemd. In de 16de eeuw werkte bijna de helft van de bevolking in de tapijtindustrie.

Onze tweewieler brengt ons langs een lusvormig parcours op plaatsen die zich eeuwen geleden in bochten en meanders van de Schelde hebben genesteld. We voelen, snuiven en horen ook de natuur en komen oog in oog te staan met het cultureel erfgoed van deze regio.
