De Rur stroomt door Heimbach en verbreedt zich iets verder tot een bochtig meer met de naam, de Heimbacher Stausee. Hoger ligt de Rursee, welke door de machtige stuwdam bij Schwammenauel gescheiden wordt van de Heimbacher Stausee. Bekijkt u al dit moois tijdens de klim naar Gemünd nog maar eens rustig. Hoog boven de terrassen van Heimbach staat trots de burcht Hengebach, waar de naam Heimbach vanaf is geleid.
