Een van de grootste puzzels van Berlijn is het Altar van Pergamon, een oude Griekse tempel uit 180-160 v.Chr. die in de jaren 1880 is opgegraven door Duitse archeologen. Het altaar is bedekt met een enorme fries die alle goden in strijd toont tegen een horde reuzen (met Athena die Alcyoneos bij het haar trekt en Zeus die het tegelijk met drie reuzen opneemt).
De 30 minuten durende, Engelstalige opgenomen rondleiding van het museum, die je bij de ingang kunt ophalen, is uitstekend.
