Medebach ligt aan de voet van het Rothaargebergte. Medebach is een Hanzestad. Hanzesteden zijn lid van het Hanzeverbond wat van oorsprong een samenwerkingsorganisatie van Duitse steden rond de Oostzee was. Later traden ook steden uit andere gebieden toe. De grote Hanzesteden, zochten voor de handel contact met kleinere dorpen en steden in hun achterland zoals Medebach. Medebach is een stadje van ongeveer een 8000 tal inwoners met een aantal prachtige pareltjes van vakwerkhuizen.
