Enkele weken na de machtsovername van Hitler werd in 1932 een nieuwe geheime staatspolitie gevomd: de Gestapo. Daarnaast werd ook het eerste concentratiekamp opgericht in Dachau. Hier werd de meubelmaker Georg Elsers opgesloten, die de eerste aanslag op Hitler pleegde in 1939. Hij werd op 9 april 1945, 20 dagen voor de bevrijding geëxecuteerd.
