De stadsdeel Bayenthal grenst in het oosten aan de Rijn, in het zuiden aan Marienburg, in het westen aan Raderberg en in het noorden aan de Neustadt-Süd via de spoorlijn naar de Kölner Zuidbrug. Rechts van de Rijn ligt Poll recht tegenover.
De eerste vermelding van Bayenthal dateert uit het jaar 1307. Zelfs in 1830 bestond de tot de gemeente Rondorf behorende plaats uit drie huizen en een kalkoven. In 1856 ontwikkelde het zich tot een industrieterrein met de oprichting van de Kölnische Maschinenbau-AG op het terrein tussen de Alteburger, Tacitus- en Goltsteinstraße door Gustav von Mevissen en H. Martin Goltstein. Langs de Alteburger Straße ontstonden arbeiderswoningen, waarvan er enkele nog steeds behouden zijn.
