Lindlar is een plaats en gemeente in het westen van de Oberbergischer Kreis in de deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen , het ligt op ongeveer 30 km ten oosten van Keulen. De gemeente behoort tot de bestuursregio Keulen. De gemeente Lindlar telt 21.430 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 85,91 km².
Het gebied rond Lindlar wordt gekenmerkt door droge hoogten en vochtige beekdalen. De belangrijkste beek die door het gemeentegebied stroomt is de Lindlarer Sülz. Deze stroomt voegt zich nabij Hommerich bij de Kürtener Sülz en mondt uit in de Agger.
