Aalen is een gemeente in de Duitse deelstaat Baden-Württemberg. Het is de Kreisstadt van het Ostalbkreis. De stad is een Große Kreisstadt en telt 68.456 inwoners. De stad ligt 48 kilometer ten noorden van Ulm.
Aalen heeft een oppervlakte van 146,48 km² en ligt in het zuidwesten van Duitsland aan de voet van de Zwabische Jura.
