Monschau is een plaats in de Duitse deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen, gelegen op een hoogte van ongeveer 420 meter in de Stadsregio Aken. Zij ligt aan de rand van de Eifel aan de bovenloop van de Roer . De stad telt 11.686 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 94,62 km². Op korte afstand liggen de plaatsen Simmerath, Schleiden, Hellenthal, Roetgen en het Belgische Eupen.
