Een burcht met geschiedenis: de burcht is onstaan in de 13e eeuw en vervolgens uitgebreid en ommuurd in de 15e eeuw. In 1543 slaagde keizer Karel V erin de burcht van de Julicher graaf in te pikken. De Fransen richtten het aansluitend in als nationaal goed en verkochten het. De toenmalige eigenaar kon het gebouw echter niet alleen onderhouden en de burcht verviel en werd helaas een ruïne. Vele jaren later werd de burcht vernieuwd en na de eerste wereldoorlog nam een jeugdherberg zijn intrede in de west-vleugel. Zo bleef de Burcht levendig en uitnodigend. Elk jaar word op het binnenhof 'Monschau Klassik' georganiseerd, het orkest en de kunstenaars toveren de Burcht dan om in een waar Mekka voor operaliefhebbers.
