De Universiteit Trier is een universiteit in de Duitse deelstaat Rijnland-Palts gevestigd in de stad Trier.
De universiteit werd op 15 oktober 1970 nieuw opgericht na een onderbreking van 172 jaar. De stad heeft al een veel oudere universitaire traditie, sinds op 16 maart 1473 in het Keurvorstendom Trier een universiteit werd opgericht, achttien jaar eerder reeds toegelaten door paus Nicolaas V. De stichting diende toen uit geldgebrek uitgesteld te worden. De Franse bezetters die Trier in 1794 veroverden, sloten op basis van de regels na de Franse Revolutie op 6 april 1798 de universiteit.
