Het Herzog-Ernst-Gymnasium Uelzen is naast het Lessing-Gymnasium een van de gymnasia van de Hanzestad Uelzen in Nedersaksen. Het werd voor het eerst in 1333 als Latijnse school genoemd. Het gymnasium is vernoemd naar Ernst I, hertog van Braunschweig en Lüneburg.
De eerste vermeldingen waren er al in de 14e eeuw, maar pas in 1535 droeg hertog Ernst zijn geboortehuis aan het einde van de Pastorenstraße over aan de school. Echter, in 1538 bevond de school, die op dat moment slechts twee klassen omvatte, zich aan de noordzijde van de begraafplaats die bij de Marienkerk hoorde. In 1792 werd de school verplaatst naar de zuidzijde, voordat ze in 1904 in een gebouw aan de Schillerstraße werd ondergebracht. In 1969 verhuisde de school naar het huidige gebouw aan de Albertstraße.
