1200 werdende het goed Ostwig voor het eerst genoemd in een oorkonde van de abdij van Meschede. Graaf Ludwig van Arnsberg ruilde in 1299 het riddergoed Gevelinghausen met de abdij van Meschede voor het goed Ostwig. In de 15e eeuw bouwde de familie Rump het uit tot een riddergoed. Rond 1500 kwam het echter eerst in niet-adellijk bezit. In 1539 verwierf Johann von Hanxleden te Anröchte het goed en vestigde hij hier ook zijn woonadres. In de 17e eeuw werd het huis Ostwig omgebouwd tot een representatieve herenhuis. In 1699 werd het bezit verenigd met het huis Borg respectievelijk Brockhausen. Met het uitsterven van de Ostwiger lijn van Hanxleben ging het bezit in 1771 over naar de familie van de baronnen von Lüninck. In het huis werden Ferdinand Freiherr von Lüninck en zijn broer Hermann Freiherr von Lüninck geboren.
