Als eiland Wannsee wordt vandaag de dag een gebied aangeduid dat omgeven is door de wateren van de Havel in het zuidwesten van Berlijn en in het noordoosten van de brandenburgse hoofdstad Potsdam. Het eiland ligt voornamelijk in de Berlijnse wijk Wannsee van het district Steglitz-Zehlendorf en voor een klein deel in de Potsdamse plaats Klein Glienicke.
Het gebied is gevormd tijdens de laatste ijstijd. Van de 17e tot de 19e eeuw werd het genoemd naar de twee dorpen op het eiland, Klein-Glienicke en Stolpe, als Glienickscher of Stolpscher Werder.
