L'isola di Wannsee è oggi un'area circondata dalle acque dell'Havel nel sud-ovest di Berlino e nel nord-est della capitale della Brandenburgo, Potsdam. L'isola si trova principalmente nel quartiere Wannsee del distretto di Steglitz-Zehlendorf, e in una piccola parte nella località di Potsdam Klein Glienicke.
Quest'area è stata modellata dall'ultima era glaciale. Dal XVII al XIX secolo, è stata chiamata Werder di Glienicke o Werder di Stolpe, in base ai due villaggi situati sull'isola, Klein-Glienicke e Stolpe.
