De Hemelschijf van Nebra werd samen met bronzen zwaarden en bijlen in 1999 door amateurarcheologen Henry Westphal en Mario Renner opgegraven op de Mittelberg, een heuvel in de buurt van het dorpje Nebra, zo’n 60 kilometer ten westen van Leipzig, in de Duitse deelstaat Saksen-Anhalt. De Nebraschijf is de vroegste verbeelding van de hemel op aarde. Het is het oudst bekende astronomische instrument ter wereld. De zeegroene bronzen Nebraschijf is tussen de 3.600 en 3.750 jaar oud.
