De Stichting Preußische Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Brandenburg, kortweg SPSG, werd na de hereniging van Duitsland opgericht met een staatsverdrag van 23 augustus 1994 tussen de deelstaten Berlijn en Brandenburg als een stichting van openbaar recht. Op 1 januari 1995 trad het verdrag in werking. De stichting is onafhankelijk van de Stichting Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
De SPSG is een samenvoeging van de door de splitsing van Duitsland ontstane administraties van de "Staatliche Schlösser und Gärten Potsdam-Sanssouci" en de "Administratie van de Staatelijke Schlösser und Gärten Berlijn". Deze instellingen zijn voortgekomen uit de Pruisische "Administratie van de Staatlijke Schlösser und Gärten", die na de vermogensverdeling tussen het Huis Hohenzollern en de Pruisische Staat op 1 april 1927 werd opgericht en in 1945 werd ontbonden.
