De Siegestor ligt ongeveer een kilometer ten noorden van de Feldherrnhalle en scheidt de Ludwigstraße, die daar eindigt, van de Leopoldstraße, die hier begint. De Siegestoris is 24 meter lang, 12 meter breed en 21 meter hoog. Het wordt gekroond door de 22 ton zware quadriga.
In 1840 gaf Ludwig I. zijn architect Friedrich von Gärtner de opdracht om een triomfboog naar het voorbeeld van de Boog van Constantijn in Rome te ontwerpen als afsluiting van zijn boulevard, de Ludwigstrasse. Deze triomfboog moet worden opgedragen aan het Beierse leger en dus rechtstreeks corresponderen met de Feldherrnhalle, die haar boulevard begint.
