Het natuurgebied Schluchtwald Kalltal sluit zich ten noorden van Rollesbroich onmiddellijk stroomafwaarts aan het Bovenste Kalltal met zijrivieren. De L12 scheidt beide gebieden. Het beschermde gebied eindigt bij het Kalltalsperre. Het totale oppervlak bedraagt 51 ha. Het natuurgebied ligt volledig binnen het veel grotere FFH-gebied DE-5303-302 Kalltal en zijvalleien. Hierdoor maakt het deel uit van het Europese netwerk van beschermde gebieden Natura 2000.
