Großhänchen is een plaats in het zuidelijke centrum van de Landkreis Bautzen in Oost-Saksen en behoort sinds 1994 tot de gemeente Burkau. De plaats ligt in de Oberlausitz, maar valt in tegenstelling tot aangrenzende dorpen niet onder het officiële woongebied van de Sorben.
Het lintdorp Großhänchen bevindt zich ongeveer 15 kilometer ten westen van de grote Kreisstadt Bautzen aan een kleine stroom, die in het nabijgelegen Taucherwald ontspringt en in noordoostelijke richting in de Schwarzwasser uitmondt. De directe omgeving is heuvelachtig en wordt intensief landelijk gebruikt. Het enige grotere bosgebied vormt het westelijk aangrenzende Taucherwald. De "Großhänchener Berg" in het noordoosten rijst tot 261 m, de "Birkenberg" in het Taucherwald tot 310 m hoogte.
