Nienburg is een gemeente in de Duitse deelstaat Saksen-Anhalt, en maakt deel uit van de Landkreis Salzlandkreis. De stad telt 6.193 inwoners.
In de 10e eeuw werd de stad vermeld in een oorkonde en door de rondtrekkende Spaanse jood Tartoesji. In het klooster van Nienburg schreef de Annalista Saxo omstreeks 1150 zijn kroniek. Tijdens festiviteiten ter ere van de hertog op 7 december 1825 stortte de enkele maanden oude hangbrug over de Saale in vele honderden mensen met zich meevoerend; meer dan honderd personen verloren het leven of raakten ernstig gewond.
