Odense is een Deense stad op het eiland Funen, het is de derde grootste stad van Denemarken, na Kopenhagen en Aarhus, en de hoofdstad van de gemeente Odense, die deel uitmaakt van de regio Syddanmark en waarvan het ook de hoofdstad is. De naam van de stad zou afkomstig zijn van de woorden Odin en Vi en zou "heiligdom van Odin" betekenen; Odin is de oppergod van de Germaanse mythologie en van de oude Noordse religie die aan het christendom voorafging.
