De lantaarns, die zich op de Plaça Reial in Barcelona bevinden, zijn gemaakt door de modernistische architect Antoni Gaudí i Cornet.
Het was een van zijn eerste werken in 1879, nadat hij zijn diploma als architect had behaald en had samengewerkt als tekenaar met Josep Fontserè i Mestre aan de ingangspoort van het Parc de la Ciutadella, wat de reden was waarom hij de gemeentelijke opdracht voor de openbare verlichting kreeg.
