Calçotada is een gastronomisch festival dat zijn oorsprong vindt in het dorpje Valls in de provincie Tarragona. De lokale traditie bestaat uit het eten van calçots, een soort zoete ui die in de negentiende eeuw werd ontdekt en ondertussen een van de belangrijkste kenmerken is van de Catalaanse eetcultuur. De calçotadagekte wordt tegenwoordig in heel Catalonië tussen januari en april gevierd, altijd in het gezelschap van vrienden en familie. De laatste zondag van januari vindt in Valls het ‘Gran Festa de la Calçotada’ plaats. Dan vullen de straten en pleinen er zich met mensen die willen genieten van de lokale delicatesse. Het evenement omvat een gevarieerd programma van feestelijke evenementen.
