Santiago de Compostela is de hoofdstad van de autonome gemeenschap Galicië, in het noordwesten van Spanje. De stad vindt zijn oorsprong in het heiligdom van Sint-Jacobus de Grote, nu de Kathedraal van Santiago de Compostela, als de bestemming van de Weg van Sint-Jacobus, een belangrijke katholieke pelgrimsroute sinds de 9e eeuw. In 1985 werd de oude stad van de stad aangewezen als werelderfgoed van UNESCO.
