Het Banyoles-meer is het grootste niet-litorale meer van Catalonië waaruit natuurlijk water stroomt. Het is ook de oorsprong en het belangrijkste identiteitskenmerk van de stad Banyoles. Het is ongeveer 2.150 m lang, de maximale breedte van de noordelijke lob is 775 m en die van de zuidelijke lob 725 m. De oppervlakte bedraagt 111,7 ha en de maximale diepte is ongeveer 40 of 45 m, hoewel er plaatsen zijn waar bronnen zijn ontdekt die tot 120 m diep reiken. Het meer en zijn lacustaire bekken worden beschouwd als het meest uitgebreide karstgebied van het Iberisch Schiereiland en een ecosysteem van aanzienlijke waarde.
