Spanair-vlucht JK 5022 verongelukte op 20 augustus 2008 nabij de Spaanse hoofdstad Madrid. De vlucht van de luchthaven Madrid-Barajas naar de luchthaven van Las Palmas op de Canarische Eilanden verongelukte tijdens het opstijgen van startbaan 36L om 14:14 lokale tijd. Volgens de passagierslijst vervoerde het vliegtuig 163 passagiers en negen bemanningsleden. Het vliegtuig brak in stukken en brandde uit.Na enkele bijstellingen werd het aantal dodelijke slachtoffers op 153 en het aantal gewonden op 19 vastgesteld.Op 23 augustus bezweek een 31-jarige vrouw alsnog aan haar verwondingen. Het dodental kwam daarmee op 154.
