De Straat van Gibraltar , is de zee-engte tussen Marokko en Spanje . De breedte is 14 tot 44 km, de lengte circa 60 km en de grootste diepte 286 m. Deze zee-engte is genoemd naar de rots op het meest zuidoostelijke landpunt, Gibraltar.
De Straat van Gibraltar is tevens het verbindingspunt tussen de Atlantische Oceaan en de Alboránzee, die op zijn beurt weer overgaat in de Middellandse Zee. Vooral om deze reden is het een strategische plek. De Britten hechtten in het verleden veel belang aan het bezit van Gibraltar als militaire basis. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd er een hevige strijd geleverd om Duitse onderzeeboten, die de Straat van Gibraltar poogden te passeren, te detecteren en te vernietigen.
