In de originele grot zijn er rotstekeningen en gravures bewaard gebleven die dateren uit de late boven-Magdalénien periode, binnen de bovenste paleolithicum; de schilderingen gelegen in een galerij die bekend staat als Altxerri B, zijn in een studie uit 2013 gedateerd als de oudste rotstekeningen van Europa, met een leeftijd van negenendertigduizend jaar.
